Nicker Paint Office | Painting Backgrounds for Animation #19

What the old Nicker Paint office looked like… This painting was inspired by a Luca Papeo painting, as well as the recent demolishment of this building. After 45 years Nicker Poster Colour had to move out, and we wanted to gift this as a small token when I visited them a few days ago.

For the animation, we wanted to keep things loose & cartoony, and to animate the feet as if they were little stamps leaving behind their painterly paw prints.

Anima 2019: Award & Review

We were very surprised and honored our animated short won the RTBF – La Trois Award at Anima 2019 this past weekend. Thanks to the festival and everyone who helped and supported us in creating this film!

Branchés Culture saw our film there, and wrote a little review in French. It roughly translates to:

“A superb project that addresses the problem of bullying among young people. Very nice drawings, a careful realization and a surprising fall make this project a great success. A movie to show to young and old alike.”

Next time you can catch our film will be next Saturday, at Athens Animfest.

School Benches | Painting Backgrounds for Animation #15

Episode XV! A film taking place at school naturally requires painting a lot of school benches.

Snowy Bench | Painting Backgrounds for Animation #14

While it may look simple, it proved quite difficult to paint compositions with snow. And though the result may look cold, this particular background was painted while it was 37°C outside.

New Animation Showreel

It’s been a while since our last one, so we cobbled together a showreel of our recent animation work. Enjoy!

Dreary Cityscape | Painting Backgrounds for Animation #13

A cityscape painted in greyscale to convey the dreary state of a main character’s mind.

This background was painted for the graduation film of our former intern. Check out her youtube channel for more updates!

Snake Alley Festival of Film

🎞 Festival news! ‘From The Snow-Covered Hill’ will make it’s US debut at Snake Alley Festival of Film this month. It will screen on June 23. Come check it out if you’re in Snake Alley!

Chalkboard | Painting Backgrounds for Animation #12

This composition was drawn in a threatening perspective, heightening the drama of the shot. We pushed this even further by designing the chalkboard to reach the ceiling, so you’d need a ladder to write at the top of it.

Roof Tiles | Painting Backgrounds for Animation #11

In this episode, we focus on creating textures for roof tiles and add growth of moss to give a little green variety throughout.

Sunset Rooftop | Painting Backgrounds for Animation #10

Here, we painted just a hint of sunshine hitting the darkened rooftop, slightly teasing what’s behind it and hinting what the bird wants our main character to see.
