Eindhoven Cityscape | Painting Backgrounds for Animation #22 | Nicker Poster Colour
This painting of Eindhoven city is quite elaborate, so we kept the video longer.
Eindhoven 1920-2020: From Now Till Then | Animation
We’re excited to show you a little of our home town, so we loved when Cultuurstation asked us to create a journey of 100 seconds through 100 years of Eindhoven in celebration of the city’s anniversary. In the first place to motivate kids to discover more about the city, but also for the older ones to spot all the famous and maybe not so famous trademarks.
The client requested to put as much of Eindhoven’s culture and history into a short amount of time. That’s why we chose to focus the animation on being a visual journey with an energetic flow backwards in time, while playing with Eindhoven iconography, until we reach the point where it all began. Inspired by the urban feel of the city, the look & feel became a combination of colourful and surrealistic imagery over realistic looking hand-painted backgrounds of familiar spots. Like graffiti on an industrial wall.

Matte! Nande? | Animation Showreel 2020
Maybe a new showreel for 2020 will add a little positivity to this year
Nicker Paint Office | Painting Backgrounds for Animation #19
What the old Nicker Paint office looked like… This painting was inspired by a Luca Papeo painting, as well as the recent demolishment of this building. After 45 years Nicker Poster Colour had to move out, and we wanted to gift this as a small token when I visited them a few days ago.
For the animation, we wanted to keep things loose & cartoony, and to animate the feet as if they were little stamps leaving behind their painterly paw prints.
Undone | Painting Backgrounds for Animation #16
We know a couple of you have been waiting for this for a long time, but finally here’s another Painting Backgrounds For Animation video. It’s a short one, but hopefully it fulfills your sweet tooth for now!
Oil paints were used for the production of “Undone”, which was a fresh change of pace. Gave some great new insight for future paintings. Stay tuned for more videos soon, and in the meantime check Undone on Amazon Prime Video.
Festival News
Excited that the music video we created with Wan Qing Wang for Handsome Johnny is making it’s international festival debut at the Insomnia Animation Festival this month. So hop onto your scooter and get to Russia!
Handsome Johnny: Johnny And The Devil
Something’s here! It’s the music video for ‘Johnny And The Devil’, commissioned by alternative roots/americana band Handsome Johnny.
We only had about a month to put this together, but luckily we had Wan Qing Wang on our team. Together with her we decided to focus on creating an ominous mood with the lighting, colors and telling a straightforward tale with some slightly weird visuals.
New Animation Showreel
It’s been a while since our last one, so we cobbled together a showreel of our recent animation work. Enjoy!
Painting Backgrounds for Animation 04: Noir Table
To create a Film Noir-ish look in our @dwddtv animation, we painted backgrounds using just black and white. In this style it’s especially fun to play with highlights of glassware.
